What is the Update?
Ohio’s Smoking Law has updated its definition to include any and all electronic smoking devices (e-cigarettes) and vapor products. These smoking products are not allowed to be used indoors, and the restrictions that apply to outdoor use would be the same for regular tobacco products.
How does this affect me?
There should be no smoking, vaping, or use of e-cigarettes within any building while working on a task. You must adhere to each Customer's location's rules and regulations regarding where smoking is allowed on their property (note that each location may have different policies regarding this). If you and caught violating a location's policy, you may be asked to leave or stop the action.
What should I do if I need a break?
Communicate clearly with the Customer if you need to step away to smoke, and ensure you ask where the designated smoking area is located. Keep in mind that you must still adhere to any scheduled break times (paid or unpaid). Not being punctual with breaks may result in a reduction in pay or the Customer sending you home for not completing the assigned task. Stepping away without communicating with the Customer will cause a poor experience if they cannot find you when they need you, and may lead to the Customer choosing not to work with you again.
Communication is key with each Customer for each task and helps maintain a great relationship. Remember, if you cannot find a manager when you need to speak with one, review the task description to see if there is a specific way they request you communicate with them or a phone number to use; you can also use the task's Customer chat.
