Taskers working 1099 Tasks are independent contractors and are not employees of Hyer or the Customer posting the task. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for the cost of the background check required to access 1099 opportunities through Hyer.
Background checks and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks are completed through Checkr, Hyer's third-party background check provider.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of your background check or MVR check varies based on your location and the searches required.
Costs typically range from $5–$20.
Hyer is charged different fees by the county, state, and Checkr to process a background check. Hyer does not make a profit from background check fees.
You'll see the exact cost in the Hyer app before starting your background check, and you will be asked to approve the cost before moving forward.
Who Pays for the Background Check?
As a 1099 independent contractor, you are responsible for the cost of your background check or MVR check, regardless of the results. Hyer is unable to waive the fee or deduct it from future earnings.
Background check fees are non-refundable once the background check is in progress or completed.
What About W-2 Tasks?
The information above applies only to 1099 Independent Contractor Tasks.
If you are selected to work a W-2 Task, you will complete a separate free background check through Ascen as part of the W-2 onboarding process.
If your Hyer account was previously restricted, disabled, or deleted, creating a new account does not make you eligible to complete another background check or return to the Hyer platform.
