Background checks may include searches through county courts and other jurisdictions. How quickly those searches are completed depends on how records are maintained and accessed by each court or jurisdiction.
Some records can be searched electronically, while others may require a manual search by the county court. Hyer and Checkr cannot control how quickly an individual court or jurisdiction returns its records.
How Long Does an MVR Check Take?
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks are typically returned much faster and may be completed almost immediately.
Can Hyer Speed Up My Background Check?
Hyer cannot expedite a background check. If your background check is still being processed, continue monitoring your email for communications from Checkr.
How Do I Check the Status of My Background Check?
You can check the status of your background check or MVR check through the Checkr Candidate Portal (https://candidate.checkr.com/login/email).
- You'll need to enter the same information you originally used to start your background check to log into the portal.
You will also be notified via email when your background check or MVR check has been completed.
Why Is My Background Check Taking Longer?
Common reasons your background check may take longer include:
- Checkr needs additional information from you. Check your email, including your spam or junk folder, for requests for additional information or documentation.
- A county or court is taking longer than usual. Courts may experience processing delays or backlogs.
- Records require a manual search. Not every court or jurisdiction provides records electronically, which can increase processing time.

My Background Check Is Taking Too Long. Can I Get a Refund?
Background check processing times can vary, and processing delays do not qualify for a refund.
Once your background check is in progress or completed, the background check fee is non-refundable—even if the check takes longer than expected.
