What Does It Mean to Be a 1099 Independent Contractor?

- You are not an employee of Hyer or the Customer.
- Taxes are not withheld from your 1099 Task payments.
- You are responsible for keeping track of your earnings.
- You are responsible for accurately reporting your income and paying any applicable federal, state, or local taxes.
- Your 1099 Task payments are processed through Stripe (our third-party payment processor).
Does Hyer Take Taxes Out of My 1099 Payments?
β No. Hyer does not withhold taxes from your 1099 earnings. When required, Hyer will report your 1099 earnings to the IRS and applicable state tax authorities.
As an independent contractor, you are responsible for keeping track of your earnings and accurately reporting them when filing your taxes.

What Is a 1099-NEC?
A Form 1099-NEC is a federal tax information form used to report nonemployee compensation.
Hyer uses Stripe, our third-party payment processor, to provide 1099-NEC tax forms to eligible 1099 Taskers.
How Much Do I Have to Earn to Receive a 1099-NEC?
The federal reporting threshold changed beginning with payments made in 2026.
If you earn $2,000 or more in qualifying 1099 payments through Hyer during the 2026 calendar year, you will generally receive a 1099-NEC through Stripe.
What About Previous Years?
The federal reporting threshold was previously $600.
For example, if you earned $600 or more during the 2025 calendar year, you generally met the federal threshold to receive a 1099-NEC for those earnings.
π Important: The threshold for receiving a 1099-NEC does not determine whether you are responsible for reporting your earnings. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for accurately reporting your earnings as required. If you have questions about what income you are required to report, please consult a qualified tax professional.
How Does Hyer Calculat\/';e My Annual Earnings?
Hyer calculates your earnings based on the date the earnings were deposited β not the date you completed the Task.
For example, if you completed a Task at the end of December but the earnings were deposited in January, those earnings are calculated based on the January deposit date.
Hyer does not provide a breakdown of your total earnings between Customer payments, bonuses, promotions, or other payments. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for keeping track of your earnings.
