๐ This article applies to Hourly Tasks that include an unpaid break.
Some Hourly Tasks may include a mandatory or optional unpaid break. If a Task includes an unpaid break, the break time is included in the Task's total scheduled duration but is not included in your paid working time.
Always review the Task Details before starting a Task so you understand the break requirements and how much of the scheduled time is paid.
Communication with on-site management is key, whether you are taking or skipping a break. Having good communication with the Customer helps ensure you are paid correctly.
How Does an Unpaid Break Affect My Pay?
For an Hourly Task, you are paid for the time you work. An unpaid break is not considered paid working time.
Example:
Your Task shows a total duration of 8 hours and includes a 30-minute unpaid break.
- Total Task duration: 8 hours
- Unpaid break: 30 minutes
- Paid working time: 7 hours and 30 minutes
If you are on-site for the scheduled 8 hours and take the 30-minute unpaid break, you will be paid for 7.5 hours of work.
How Can I Tell if My Task Has an Unpaid Break?
Review the Task Details before starting your Task to see:
- Whether the break is mandatory or optional.
- How much unpaid break time is included.
- The amount of paid working time included in the Task.
What if I Have Questions About My Break?
If you are unsure when to take your break or whether to take an optional break, check with the on-site manager before taking a break or working additional time.
The Customer is not obligated to pay for time you do not work on an Hourly Task or for work you do not complete on a Flat/Fixed-Fee Task.
If you have questions about the break requirements for your Task, please discuss them with on-site management.
