What does Out of Stock (OOS) mean, and how do I count it?
Let’s first understand what a Facing is. A Facing is a slot on the shelf where identical units of a product (with the same UPC) are placed. A facing has depth, which determines how many units can be placed in that facing.
A UPC is considered Out of Stock if there are NO units on the shelf across all dedicated Facings.
In this Herbal Essences example, Facings 1 through 3 have unique UPCs and Faces 4 and 5 have the same UPC.
Herbal Essences has ONE Out of Stock because it has ONE UPC that is Out of Stock:
1. UPC 34 is Out of Stock because it has ONLY one dedicated Facing, which is ALL EMPTY.
2. UPC 78 is NOT Out of Stock because it has TWO dedicated Facings and one of the Facings has product
EXAMPLE
The empty Facing outlined in red is dedicated to a Pantene UPC, and that UPC is dedicated to that Facing ONLY. For the Pantene brand, the Out-of-Stock count is ONE.
