Background checks are performed down to the county, and some county searches are returned the same day, while some take several days or more, depending on the search methodology. At the county level, some counties have all their data online, and it’s complete and up-to-date. In this case, an electronic Public Access Terminal (PAT) can be used. If a court has no electronic data, people on the ground in that city are utilized to provide the data, also called furnishers, to capture the information. It’s up to each jurisdiction to determine what kind of database they hold. In-person database searches will cause reports to take longer.
MVR checks are instantaneous.
Common reasons your background check may be taking longer:
- Checkr is waiting for a piece of information from you (check your spam folder). If this is the case, you should have received a communication from us.
- The county court(s) being searched is/are taking longer than usual to return data. It’s possible, for example, that there is a record request backlog in one of the counties or courts being searched. For more information on the county search process, please see County Criminal Record Search in the Checkr Help Center.
