We have received a notice from Checkr (our third-party partner who processes our background checks) that, due to a new law in Michigan, the courts are pulling the ability for Checkr to access the system electronically to retrieve the needed information in order to pass a background check. This means the wait time is expected to increase substantially as we will have to wait for a court employee to manually process the information to get it to Checkr.
We appreciate your patience in this. We hope to get you out there completing tasks as quickly as possible!
How long will my background check take?
Checkr does its best to provide an accurate estimate of how long it may take for the background check to be completed. This estimate may be off due to the recent update. Checkr is doing its best to have each background check completed as soon as possible, but it will be experiencing delays with the Michigan courts. You can go to the Checkr Candidate Portal to find out the status of your background check.
Can I work before my background check is completed?
No, each Tasker is required to pass a background check before being able to apply or work on any scheduled tasks on the Hyer platform.
Can I get a refund if it is taking too long?
Hyer is not able to refund the cost of any background check that is In Progress or Complete, as Checkr, the county, and state charge Hyer and Checkr for the background check reports. Only a small fee is passed along to you (the fee is based on your location), with Hyer covering a majority of the cost. The cost of your background check is your responsibility, no matter how long it takes or how the results come out.

On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, Michigan’s new clean slate law went into effect. A requirement of this law is the expungement of a determined set of past convictions and future automated expungement of those same convictions. In order to accomplish this initial record clearing, several courts across the state have removed public access to their criminal indexes or greatly reduced the available years to search. As of Thursday, April 13, 2023, five Michigan counties (Kent, Wayne, Antrim, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau) have decided to pause their processing of searches.
Checkr is actively working with the courts to gain access to full case histories and understand their timeline for updating their criminal indexes. In the meantime, we are anticipating extensive court delays.
What does this mean for you?
Until the Michigan courts resume processing, any Michigan county searches you run may experience severe delays.
This is a fluid situation, and we do not know how long the closure will last. We will continue to provide you with additional updates as they are made available.
